The Second City is bringing its improv troupe back to Newport Beach after its first local show sold out in June.

The Chicago-born comedy institution performs "The Second City Goes Coastal" on the Sunset Lawn at VEA Newport Beach on Friday, Sept. 4. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and the show starts at 5:30 p.m. Tickets start at $60 for general admission and VIP tables, according to the Newport Beach Independent.

The two-act, 90-minute show features short-form improv sketches, audience interaction and classic Second City material. The cast builds each set around audience suggestions and the venue, so no two performances are alike.

Tyler Dean Kempf of The Second City called Orange County "a new venture for us" in a statement and said Newport Beach's coastal setting fits the energy the troupe aims for.

The troupe's first VEA appearance on June 12 sold out. Orange Coast magazine included the Sept. 4 return in its Labor Day weekend events roundup.

Five cast members will perform: Adam Peacock, Allison Price, Andy Assaf, Braxton Brooks and Edgar Blackmon. Stage manager Katie Hildreth and musical director Nick Gage round out the production team.

VEA is offering two overnight hotel packages for the show. Both include valet parking and a $100 dining credit. One bundles two general admission tickets; the other includes a VIP table for two. VEA General Manager Debbie Snavely said the hotel wants to give guests and the community access to experiences like the Second City partnership.
