More than 300 original artworks, live music, food and a beer-and-wine bar will fill the Newport Beach Civic Center on Saturday, Aug. 15, when the 59th Annual Newport Beach Art Exhibition caps the city's inaugural Art Week.

The juried show runs noon to 5 p.m. at 100 Civic Center Drive. Admission and parking are free.

As we reported Aug. 8, Art Week launched Sunday with a Pacific Symphony concert and continues through Saturday with exhibitions, workshops and performances across town. The Art Exhibition is the week's main event, organized by the Newport Beach Arts Commission.

City Manager Seimone Jurjis previewed the week in an Aug. 4 community newsletter, calling it "another first" for Newport Beach and noting the exhibition would showcase "more than 300 works of art from talented artists across the region."

What's there

Paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures and mixed-media pieces by California artists line the Civic Center grounds, according to event details posted by Patch. Every piece is for sale.

Local band BSide plays live in the Food & Beverage Pavilion, open noon to 5 p.m. Tacos and Company handles the food, while Tap Truck OC pours beer and wine at a no-host bar in a 21-and-older area.

Kids can paint and make crafts with Art in Motion from noon to 4:30 p.m.

People's Choice Award

Visitors vote for their favorite artwork between noon and 3 p.m. The winner is announced at 4 p.m. during an award ceremony presided over by guest juror Julie Perlin Lee, executive director of Laguna Art Museum.

Docent tours and sculptures

Sherman Library & Gardens leads docent-guided walks identifying native California plants throughout Civic Center Park, noon to 5 p.m. Visitors can also grab a brochure mapping all 20 outdoor public sculptures on display in the park.

Parking

Free parking is available in the Civic Center Structure. Drivers must enter through the Avocado Avenue and Civic Center Drive entrance only. Overflow parking is across the street at the lot near 12 Corporate Plaza Drive.
